Evoked
Evoked was the first film I ever directed and it has a special place in my heart. It is a psychological horror short about an exchange student who starts to have strange experiences after suffering an attack. This film explores Chinese and Korean monster lore as well as themes of isolation and social anxiety. (This is not meant to be a representation of schizophrenia. The film is intended to be metaphorical). Currently we are looking to get the film distributed and it will hopefully be release for public viewing in 2020.
Cast based on order of appearance:
Ian Kim, Alannah Bergman, Travis Friday, August Hasani & Ricardo Pequenino
Evoked has won 3 awards so far…
2nd Place at MAMM 2018
Best Overall Short at VAFF 2018
Award of Commendation at Canada Shorts 2019
Temp(orary).
Temp(orary). is a short experimental film I created and starred in with the help of some amazing local film-buddies. The film was co-directed by Ivette Novales-Gomez and created as a project for the Fulfilling Young Artists program. The film explores the feeling between getting out of a bad situation and the moment you start to feel better again. It is something I would like to expand on in the future. It will be out for public viewing in a couple months from now.
The Real Estate Agent
Written by Margaret Doyle. I had the pleasure of directing the premier of this powerful and poignant stage-play about the Vancouver housing market. The production starred the talented Lara Amelie Abadir , Ricardo Pequenino & Steven Simpson.
Hanjo
Hanjo was the second of Two-Modern Noh Plays put on for the Vancouver Fringe Festival 2019. The first was a play called Sotoba Komachi, and was directed by Kenneth Tynan. The show was produced by Midtwenties Theatre Society, a company run by Beau Han Bridge. They have a new show coming soon called Light Rapid Transit delayed due to Covid-19. The show could not have gone on without our amazing stage manager Shelby Satterthwaite. We were honoured to be awarded the Joanna Maratta Award for this production.
“…it looked like Hanako was the picture. I loved this imagery, as Jitsuko herself is an artist who has painted many pictures of Hanako, this use of a prop worked wonderfully…. The dialogue ran like poetry and swept the audience away; it was only upon reflection afterwards that I noticed the lessons and themes that tie them all together.” - Iona Middleton in a review by CJSF
Hanjo starred an all female cast consisting of Nadya Debogorski, Maria Yanagisawa & Junita Thiessen
My Roommate is a Summoner
This project has been put on hold until further notice. I hope to be able to update this a little after Covid-19 has passed.
